Abstract: The presentation will focus on the Yolŋu Patient Educator Service at RDH, (2001 to present) and detail the principles behind ARDS? unique, effective educational methodology. Drawing on 30 years corporate experience in the field, ARDS health educators Dr Alyssa Vass and Alice Mitchell RN/RM, will discuss the factors contributing to miscommunication in Indigenous health, and present opportunities for improving health education strategies.

Dr Alyssa Vass currently works both with ARDS and in the RDH Emergency Department and has a Master of Community Development, majoring in Indigenous Development.

Alice Mitchell has worked as a remote area nurse in Arnhem land, in interpreter training, in health education resource production and as a Patient Educator at RDH.
