Description

16 July 2010

The NTEIPP comes under the National Binge Drinking Strategy and is aimed at providing police with tools and options to tackle youth binge drinking, within a harm reduction framework.  NTEIPP aims to support activities that reduce the supply and the demand for alcohol, but will primarily target its activities at reducing alcohol related harms (such as antisocial behaviour and crime) by providing alternatives for youth through the adaptation or development of training and education materials and increased diversionary programs.  Strategies will focus on understanding community (and individual) risk of alcohol related harms and targeting those considered to be most at risk. NTEIPP aims to improve referrals to health services for young individuals identified as having alcohol related concerns, and will target early intervention activities. As protection from emotional distress and substance misuse are thought to be based in resilience and wellbeing, NTEIPP is exploring community development strategies that build resilience.
