Abstract:
This study is aimed to develop, trial and evaluate an adaptation of the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System ABAS II (Teacher Form) for Indigenous Australian students aged 5 to 14 years by performing a qualitative study through semi-structured interviews with classroom observations and a quantitative study through item and scale analysis and pilot testing of psychometric properties.
The adaptation is aimed at providing a culturally equivalent measure of adaptive behaviour functioning level, allowing education advisors to gather relevant information on the adaptive behaviour skills of Indigenous Australian students in; supporting a diagnosis for example an intellectual disability, supporting the application of Special Education Support Program (SESP) funding for students with identified special needs, providing useful information when compiling or revising Education Adjustment Plans for students or making relevant referrals to much needed services.

The presentation will outline the proposal for this study, as confirmation for PhD candidature. 

Biography:
I have 25 years experience in teaching and psychology. I currently  work as an Education Advisor Psychologist (school psychologist) for Student Services Division Department of Education and Training for the past four years. I service around twenty schools (urban, rural and remote) in the three Northern Territory regions.

I've acquired my masters degree in education psychology in South Africa in 1995. I've worked on a therapy tool for children: "Therapy for children using the inkblot method".
